Chai Prakarn District is located in the highlands of opium production and trade. Despite years of crop substitution and rural development, opium problem exists. Methadones maintenance treatment has been introduced along with the drop-in centre and outreach activities performed by the ex- or current PWID as peer educators providing knowledge and other services under close supervision by the medical team from Chai Prakarn Hospital.
EARLY PREVENTION IN PRESCHOOL AGE

Learning that people with substance use disorders clearly have problems with their ability to make decisions and that these problems may appear before any substance-related issues arise. Decision-making is part of a higher-level mental capacity called Executive Functions (EFs). This EFs skill emerge early in life and gradually develop across the lifespan. The community council, therefore, implements the EFs in preschools as the best-fit age for long term prevention effort.
COMMUNITY-BASED METHADONE MAINTENANCE THERAPY

The MMT model in the Santikhiri community was established through collaboration between several sectors to meet the needs of people who use drugs living in remote hill tribe communities. Civil society representatives, including people peer workers, are leading the implementation though national government regulations are strictly applied and enforced while local authorities participate and support every aspect of service delivery.
