Since 2005, SAMHSA has supported PEPFAR in Southeast Asia through training and technical assistance related to substance abuse treatment, Through a PEPFAR/SAMHSA collaboration, the Addiction Technology Transfer model was extended to include international partners, first in Vietnam, then throughout the rest of Southeast Asia following Vietnam's great success
The shift of global drug policy from over criminalization and overuse of imprisonment to decriminalization and humane approaches, a new drug law geared towards alternatives to incarceration. A drug court is mentioned and studied. The Psychosocial Clinic in justice/criminal court system has been embraced as the diversion sentencing option also the increasing use of drug treatment programs as an alternative to incarceration.
The events are aimed at introduction of new Advisory Board members from Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia along with the ECHO® training, Buprenorphine Treatment training and site visits in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai Provinces, THAILAND. As well to the work plans in bringing expertise and skill-based training on site for opioid use disorder treatment and ECHO® tele-education program.
